The two Triumph Dolomite Sprint race cars used by Mark and Philip Larmour have a very long motor racing history.
Philips car, #42, started life as a race car back in 1974 in the UK. The car was originally built by Broadspeed Engineering and raced in the 1974 BTCC. In 1975 the car was purchased by Ron Hodgson Leyland Dealer Team and brought to Australia. It then competed at the Bathurst 1000 race along with rounds of the Australian Touring Car Championship and the numerous other races, particularly the Amaroo Park under 3 litre race series that was very popular at that time.
Marks car, #43, was built by the Ron Hodgson Leyland Dealer Team in 1976 and competed along side car 42 as the sister team car.
At the end of 1977 the Ron Hodgson Leyland Dealer Team was disbanded, (although they continued running a Torana A9X), and the Sprints were sold off to privateers.
In 1981 Philip purchased his race Sprint, and has raced it continually since then. Over the years since the Sprint has raced in Group C Touring Car races, Group A Touring Car races, Sports Sedans and currently the NSW State Series for Improved Production Racing. Although the Improved Production rules allow for many modifications, car #42 is still very close to its original Group C Touring Car specification.
Marks car, #43, after being sold by RHLDT, was purchased by Gerald Kay of Jagparts in Melbourne, then Martin Power purchased the car raced it regularly in Group C and Group A Touring Car races. Martins last race with the Sprint was at the end of 1985, at the Adelaide F1 GP meeting. The Sprints homologation in international racing ended in 1985, so we believe that car #43 is the last Triumph Dolomite Sprint to be used in an International Touring Car race anywhere in the world.
Car #43 was purchased by Mark in 1990, and under went a full rebuild/restoration. It has also been used in various categories of motor racing, but it is also currently used in Improved Production Racing, with several modifications like Electronic Fuel Injection and crank trigger mappable ignition.
Both cars are prepared/maintained and driven by there respective owners.
